On Saturday the Caulfield Racecourse hosted a thrilling day of racing as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, and was highlighted by the exciting $200,000 Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m).
The 2010 JJ Liston Stakes winner Shoot Out headed into the race as favourite at Sportsbet, but for punters who looked for slightly longer odds, the payout was certainly worthwhile.
Bart Cummings’ So You Think ($7.50) claimed the honours in a star-studded field of 15, and in the process sent out a warning to his upcoming spring rivals.
It was a superb win for the 2009 Cox Plate winner seeing as he has not raced since November last year, and has only improved according to Cummings himself.
Jockey Steven Arnold took So You Think’s reins for the first time on Saturday, and was impressed by the way in which his mount responded.
Despite the wide barrier 12, So You Think managed a half-length victory over runner up Whobegotyou, with pre race favourite at SportsBet Shoot Out finishing third.
Trainer to Shoot Out John Wallace, has already made claims this season he believes the four-year-old will win the 2010 Cox Plate. But surely this run is not a good sign.
The early market odds for the 2010 Cox Plate at SportsBet have altered after the race, and have seen So You Think surge into the spot of favourite. The Cummings hopeful is at $4.20 for the win, with Shoot Out slightly out at $6.50.
Whobegotyou has lucrative odds of $13, and seeing how well the five-year-old ran on Saturday could be a worthwhile bet.
Typhoon Tracy finished fourth in the 2010 Memsie Stakes despite heading into the race as one of the hot favourites. The Red Ransom mare led the field for a small period, but looked tired in what was her first up jump this season.
Cummings has revealed So You Think will next jump in the $500,000 Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) on September 11 at Moonee Valley. So if you want to win some big bucks this spring, then sign up to SportsBet so you know you’ll be getting the best odds and markets online.
